Swiss IT Magazine: full-fledged online distance learning in the digital classroom

All educational institutions in Switzerland are closed due to Corona. Cantons and schools try different solutions for distance learning. But the fact is: The digitization of the public education system is not as advanced as it would be possible and necessary today. The Zurich private school Academic Gateway demonstrates that online distance learning can work in the digital classroom.

There was not a day interruption after the announcement of the school closures. 26 teachers currently teach almost 160 students – as part of a fully integrated online distance learning course, which is actually the same as mandatory face-to-face teaching. Students and teachers see and hear each other in the virtual classroom. In addition, according to the university model, there are also small-class lessons online. The solution is web-based and requires no pre-installation. In this virtual campus, the direct interaction between students and teachers is always guaranteed, in real time. Lessons are recorded and shared on an e-learning platform. This e-learning platform is also used to share all teaching documents and content; Such as fabric and semester plans, scripts, lecture slides, task sheets, sample solutions, explanatory videos, multiple choice questions, podcasts, exams.
